SHREVEPORT METROPOLITAN BALLET THE NUTCRACKER
Company dancers of the Shreveport Metropolitan Ballet are chosen by open auditions each Spring. In addition, all young dance students from surrounding areas are invited to audition for children’s roles in each performance.
Auditions for minor cast for The Nutcracker are held at Shreveport Dance Academy, 6607 Line Avenue, Suite F, Shreveport on the 2nd Saturday of September. Auditions are open to anyone who is at least five years old by the audition date and who is enrolled in ballet classes at an area dance school. A parent must accompany each child to the audition.
AUDITION TIMES / REQUIREMENTS
| 9:00 - 9:45 am | Reindeer | 5 & 6 years old. | 1 year previous dance training |
| 10:00 - 10:45 am | Mice | 7 & 8 year olds | 2 years previous dance training |
| 11:00 - 11:45 am | Soldiers | 9 & 10 year olds | 3 years previous dance training |
Audition forms must be filled out by an adult at the time of audition. Other requirements for participation are as follows:
Chosen dancers will be announced the day of audition after each session. A family member or representative of each dancer must attend a mandatory parent's meeting at the end of the audition time the same day. The Artistic Directors will announce roles and give out rehearsal schedules. Mice and soldiers will begin rehearsals the following weekend.
1. All families of dancers are required to become members of Shreveport Metropolitan Ballet. Your membership contribution is tax-deductible (excluding the cost of season tickets at certain levels) and will help us to continue to provide your children the opportunity to perform in professional quality productions such as "The Nutcracker" and other ballets for many years to come. Your membership contribution is due at the time of audition.
2. A $35.00 costume fee must be paid at the time of audition for each child participating. One check may be written for the membership fee and the costume fee.
3. Each dancer's family must commit to 4 hours of volunteer work. These hours can be worked by family members or friends.
